An East Indian man was selling bundles of these "Indian Shallots" for $1 each today at the Tampa Rare Fruit Council meeting. I ate one, tops and bulb....milder than I prefer as I like PUNGENT onions. Both he and Paul Zmoda said the tops die back in early summer, you lift them with some paper on the bulbs at that point, store in a garage etc, replant in the autumn. I feel it is VERY likely that these are a type of "Potato Onions" which are known to be a form of shallot. Thanks for talking me into going Mary Shalhub-Davis!
