Self sown seedlings of Vicki Conrad's "Giant Green Callalloo" (Amaranthus gangeticus?) are incredibly vigorous...these out front are just 6-7 weeks old! Time to break out the BT as they are getting hit by the caterpillars that Allen Boatman warned me about. And as Vicki warned me.....THOUSANDS of seedlings now appearing! Thankfully they pull up easily when 1-2 feet tall and the chickens and ducks love them! Interestingly, I and others have learned that the seedlings of ANY size HATE to be transplanted, no matter how gingerly, and either fail to thrive or simply die.
