"Eliska's Bunching Onion"

Eliska is a student of mine who got her originals as loose bulbs in a bin marked "bunching onions" at an Ace Hardware. For her they replicate underground and by seed. The plants in all regards remind me VERY much of my strain of Allium fistulosum that I started from seeds some years back...what throws me is that hers started as loose dry bulbs, which mine have never produced. One of the plants she gave me has been growing happily in a bed out front, and has begun blooming. Customers and students who've purchased Allium fistulosum from me in the past report that theirs are now blooming. Hmmmm......I love a good mystery!
