Let's face it...the stuff ain't cheap! And unless kept in the fridge the shelf life can be short....but it WORKS and very well too.....IF...
You don't expect immediate knockdown like you'd get with a can of bug spray....
You set it out when rain is not expected for a few days as the grass hoppers prefer to eat it dry...
You realize you won't see the full benefit until the NEXT and future years after it has broken their rampant breeding cycle.
To spread it all over your yard and gardens would be very costly, ESPECIALLY if there was an unexpected rain. Here in Florida, the Lubber grasshoppers hatch in spring and tend to cling in groups to vertical stems...they LOVE to eat the leaves of amaryllis and crinums. So....
Try putting maybe 1/4 cup in jar lids and set them close to each bevy of bugs you see, late at night or very early in the morning. It is based on bran and grasshoppers love bran and will likely find each lid soon and begin feasting. As some sicken and die, others make eat THEM as grasshoppers can be cannibals....this spreads the disease protozoa and surviving females lay pre-infected eggs that very likely will never hatch.
Ten years ago they hatched in my yard and my neighbor's yard in PLAGUE proportions...after just ONE application I am enjoying near total control even to this day! Best to order it from the source mail order vs. local retail where it may have set on the shelf for some time.
Happy Grasshopper Nuking!
