As usual the Tampa Rare Fruit Council meeting was excellent...good presentation, once again the potluck was superb...I FINALLY got to taste the Scarlet Mombins that my Dad feasted on in the 30s and 40s in Coconut Grove, and that some months ago Tanja Vidovic snagged a tree of for me at ECHO...much better flavor and texture than I had expected! I made sure that Ryan Iacovacci knew that the seeds in the White Sapotes he bought are DEADLY poison if eaten. Good to see folks I know, meet new ones.

Andrew brought two of these for me to taste at yesterday's meeting of the Tampa Rare Fruit Council....wonderful tasting skin and flesh! I am planting both seeds today.

One of my "White Potato Onion from Texas" continues to grow as most of the others remain dormant underground. But now a couple of bulb clusters that spent the last few weeks sitting atop garden edging have begun growing, with NO soil!

Today I picked my first plump green pods of the cowpea "Joyner Butter Bean" that is simply too tough to eat raw, even when VERY young, so I just boiled them for maybe ten minutes, drained, tossed them with a splash of coconut oil and soy sauce and ate them like edamame soybeans.....DELICIOUS! The folks that mailed me the seeds after finding my blog feel it is a stable hybrid of Whippoorwill and Iron Clay. I have a small number of seeds to share......VERY vigorous grower!!

I want to taste this...folks I know who have say the cooked fruits are delicious.
